Can you help with this issue?

When I am trying to install the driver for my printer I get a message
stating the RPC server is unavailable.

I have tried 2-3 different things to fix this with no luck.

Please help.

Thanks.

If you are trying to add a printer and you get the message

Operation could not be completed. The RPC server is unavailable.

the cause can be a missing or corrupted spoolss.dll or spoolss.exe. Make
sure the RPC service is started. If the error is consistent and it
continues through a reboot, re-apply the service pack.

*Also*

Symptom: Error message: RPC server is unavailable
Problem: This error message might indicate one of two problems.

* QuickDNS Remote is not installed correctly.
* MS DNS is not installed.

Solution:

Look for a file named 'dnscmd.exe' in the following directory:
{Windows}\System32\dns\qdns

Replace {Windows} with the location of your Windows directory. It's
usually either C:\WinNT or C:\Windows.

If the file isn't there, try reinstalling QuickDNS Remote. If that
doesn't fix it, contact us for assistance.

If the file is there, try executing this command at the command prompt:
{Windows}\System32\dns\qdns\dnscmd /info

The result might look something like this:

Info query failed.
Status = 1722 (0x000006ba)

Command failed: RPC_S_SERVER_UNAVAILABLE 1722 (000006ba)

If you get this error message, then MS DNS is not installed correctly.

Click Start, click Run, type the following line in the Open box, and
then click OK:
net start rpcss
Test to see if this resolves the issue. If the issue still occurs,
continue to the next step.
2. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and then click
Command Prompt.
3. At the command prompt, type ping servername, where servername is the
server, NetBIOS, DNS, or GUID name that you want to test for connectivity.

If there is a connection issue with one of these computers, contact your
network administrator to resolve the issue. If the issue still occurs,
continue to the next step.
4. Use the Netdiag tool that is included in the Microsoft Windows
Support Tools (included on the Windows CD-ROMs) to determine if the
domain controller is working correctly. You can perform a network trace
using the MSRPC, DNS, NBT, LDAP, or TCP protocols.

If there is an issue with the domain controller, contact your network
administrator to resolve the issue. If the issue still occurs, continue
to the next step.
5. Use the Netdom tool that is included in the Windows Support Tools to
verify network trust relationships and reset or establish a connection
to a server.

Hope this helps ya.

You might want to look at this:

Also if you have disabled services to which RPC depends on, that might do
it, so might disabling netbios over TCP/IP.
