Post by Iowna UassPost by homepcPost by skypilotPost by homepcI got a weird startup request
C:\WINDOWS\usabetovapuz.dll,Startup
Anyone see this b4?
Never seen it before. Search it on the internet, which is what I do
when I want to check out a file to see if it is malware.
Adios
Checked it on the internet without success. My son installed Sandboxie a
few days ago. Today this thing keeps trying to add itself to the
startup. I uninstalled Sandboxie and now I find Sbie Cntl still remaining
in my startup. I can't remove it either.
You have issues.
You'll need to id all the processes that sandboxie installed and remove
them from the registry and file system.
If you are not comfortable with this, nuke and restore from a backup or
seek a pro.
I was able to get rid of the orphaned Sbie Cntl startup using the following
method:
http://forum.soft32.com/win4/MSConfig-StartUp-Tab-Removing-duplicates-unused-unneeded-ent-ftopict219271.html
The usabetovapuz.dll checked out as a problem ( false positives maybe? ) by
3 out of 35 antivirus programs using
http://virscan.org/helpus.php
AVG did not analyze the dll file as a problem but advised me to rename the
dll file extension to .old. That allowed me to deselect it from the startup
file. Then I used the above method to remove it from the startup file
permanently. I kept this file for a couple of days trying to figure out
where it may have come from, but had no luck. I deleted it yesterday
without any ill effects -- knock on wood!
I also ran Hijack This and deleted the following:
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {CCC7A320-B3CA-4199-B1A6-9F516DD69829} - (no file)
I doubt if these two items were related, but they are both gone now.
