I wrote to this group before about virus checking email though Outlook
Express. I was advised that it was kind of pointless because Microsoft and
Gmail virus check all messages before forwarding them along to and from
Outlook Express.

My question is do all my text messages opened in news.eternal-september.org
get scanned at some point? Or is it also pointless because they are just
text messages?

if you are using hotmail or gmail they get scanned...not just outlook
as for newsgroups...there just text so I doubt theres a problem...unless
of course u dl the files with a program that will compile the txt to binary
and by the way u should use either thunderbird or windows live
mail...outlook express isn't even supported anymore or even suggested

I've tried to install Windows live mail earlier this year, but I couldn't
figure out how to set it up properly. I didn't have the patience so I got
rid of it for the time being ( My eyes sight is kind of poor right now ).
It's just that I am familiar with OE and I don't want to dump it until it's
absolutely necessary. I'm still using Windows XP set up to look like an
older version.

I have Thunderbird installed, but I remember checking how to archive old
email and it was a pain. At least with OE I can do a simple drag and drop
to archive email without a big production.

You dont need to install WLM. You can still use OE. I dunno when but MTS
added a utility to set up OE to pick up WLM. Easy as cake.
